I am debating on wether or not to buy the bagger for my BX 1500 with a 48" deck. I do not plan to rake the yard after I am done mowing, not exactly the time saver I was looking for, but I don't want to spend over $1,000 on a bagger system. How is the MMM doing on your tractor? Do you have a bagger and so recommend one or do you think the grass clippings are small enough to warrant not buying the bagger and feel safe not raking the clippings? Thanks for any input.

I have the 54" deck w/o a bagger. It does a fairly good job of spreading the clippings over the lawn as long as you aren't taking too much length at once. It will cut through nearly anyting without much trouble, but clumping becomes an issue if the grass is too long. The cheapest alternative to a bagger is cutting the grass often. The next cheapest alternative is getting a set of mulching blades (gator or similar). I don't have them, but many here speak highly of them. Also, I think they can be added without using a "plug" in the deflector chute.

Gator blades aren't made for every thing yet. Unfortunately the replacement and need for them to begin with dictate what models and who gets them. You should never mow over 1/3 the grass height. That ends many of the horsepower problems, as well as clumping! ....

Get the bagger. Well worth the money for the leaf cleanup alone. You will get clumping no matter what blades you use if the grass is long enough. The vac system is strong and does a wonderful job.

I bought a BX2230 in April with 60 mmm and a bagger, I used the bagger several times when I could not keep ahead of the grass in the spring. It worked great Putting it on and off was more of a chore than it looks like it should be. We finally got directions from the factory See the details on AV8R web site for what works on installing, It really helped.
I have not used my bagger much this summer, too much fun mowing so I don't let the grass get that long, in a few weeks the leaves will start to fall, then I will use it a lot. I have enough trees that I get about 2 pickup truck loads a week of leaves even after mulching them in the bagger. I would never get them cleaned up without a bagger. ....
